Decanted: A Night With Kaesler Wines
South Australia’s Barossa Valley is one of Australia’s oldest and finest wine producing regions with some 170 wine growing companies.
To stand out among such highly regarded competition, including names such as Penfolds, St Halletts, Henschke and Elderton, is no mean feat.
So, when premier wine connoisseurs Robert Parker and James Halliday offer glowing reviews of your product, you know you must be doing well.
"One of the most exciting wine portfolio's in South Australia. The result is exuberant, full-throttle, classic wines,” the esteemed Parker said of Kaesler in his Wine Advocate.

For Kaesler, it’s just another string in their bow of 123 years of shaping and contributing to Australia’s wine industry.
The Kaesler family moved from Germany to South Australia in the 1840s, growing Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro on their Barossa acreage.
It wasn’t until current winewaker Reid Bosward and his team of investors took over in 1999 that they really made an impact. The new proprietors aimed to produce “bold estate wines representative of the Barossa” and that they did.
According to its website, Boswald accessed a “secret stash of supercharged Shiraz grapes used by other Barossa wineries which had been fortified for over 100 years”.
The result was an intensely fruity, special premium batch by the name of ‘Old Bastard’.
Boswald’s experience with the Shiraz grape in France, South Africa and neighbouring Cellarmaster winery in Barossa clearly shone through. As Halliday said in The Australian
“When Bosward handled the shiraz, the quality of the wine stood out like a beacon.”
It’s legacy is now powerful varietals such as Stonehorse, premium Old Vine Shiraz, Alte Reben and ‘The Bogan’ — with evidence of Kaesler’s centuries old “gnarled dry-grown Shiraz” prominent in each drop.
We’ll be showcasing six Kaesler “bold estate” wines in our special Friday night Decanted session on June 24.
The tasting menu includes the 2013 Bogan Shiraz as well as the 2012 Viognier, named in Halliday’s 5-star 2015 Australian Wine Companion review with a 94 point rating.
