Top spots for lunch in Kuala Lumpur

It’s the New Year and fresh, healthy bites seem to be the thing on everyone’s menu. There’s also lunch favourites that you know you can’t go past. We’ve selected some of the best lunch venues in central KL to get your taste buds watering. All at a fabulous price, too!

1. Acme Bar and Coffee in Troika is known for their creative entrées, fresh coffees and clever selection of wines. Typically, you would start off with an espresso or glass of wine (a good Yarra Valley Sauvignon Blanc Sémillon) or their lovely lychee coconut tea. The unique thing about Acme is that they have a menu that rotates every quarter named after the seasons. A signature dish is their chicken lasagna with pumpkin, mozzarella and vinaigrette. They also serve authentic American dishes such as gumbo, shrimp remoulade and brisket sandwiches.

2. If you are into healthy eating, check out Goodness Greens Cafe at TTDI. This vegan salad bar has a huge selection of bases that you can choose from (brown rice, salad leaves, romaine lettuce or warm potatoes) coupled with lovely protein, grain or vegetable toppings. Their soups are heavenly mixes of almond milk and carrots with rosemary and mushrooms or zucchini. To complement your meal, we suggest you try their vatte (vegan latte) made from almond milk and for dessert sink your teeth into their acai berry and dragon fruit smoothies laced with cacao nibs, bee pollen, bananas and strawberry slices.

3. Fancy Japanese cuisine? Situated in the Weld, Kamimura has some excellent lunch sets to choose from. The authentic servings range from grilled eel (unagi kabayaki teishoku) to deep fried chicken (tori karaage teishoku). They are served with carefully prepared green tea to complete the experience.

4. Everyone loves a great Italian restaurant and Le Midi at Bangsar Shopping Centre certainly delivers. Its vibrant and deliciously diverse French and Italian cuisine is recreated daily from chef Andrea's original recipes and baked on site using only the freshest ingredients. Their ‘Power Lunch’ at RM26 is a winner and provides ample choice for all diners.

5. Dim sum anyone? This popular Hong Kong cuisine is so well perfected in Malaysia that it has almost become a staple for breakfast and lunch goers. Marco Polo restaurant in Raja Chulan is best known for their wonderful braised chicken feet, fried yam and custard buns.

6. For aesthetically pleasing, brilliant local cuisine head to Tamarind Hill. Set in a gorgeous wood adorned building with long tables, this is the perfect setting for business meetings. Soft lighting, coupled with a scrumptious selection of signature local dishes such as Hainanese chicken rice and soup, black tiger prawns and even roti canai (pan fried) made with your choice of ingredients.

7. Last, but not least, is of course Drift Dining and Bar.
