Burgers, Beers and the Best Burgers in KL

No one would really pair a burger with any other alcoholic beverage except a beer.

Maybe it’s because the origin of the burger is associated with two beer-loving nations, Germany and America.

Perhaps it’s just one of those matches made in heaven, like wine and cheese or peanut butter and jelly.

Or maybe it’s because the burger is a comfort food and beer is a comfort drink — items we seek out on those rough days or sunny days!

For a little history, the early version of the burger was introduced in Moscow by Kublai Khan in the thirteenth century and it gained popularity across Europe and in particular areas of Germany.

Fast forward to the 1900s and other variants of raw meat steaks were popping up around Italy.

Before long, most countries in Europe, Asia and the Middle East had their own version of the dish.

In America, the evolution of the burger started from another variant of the steak tartare; the Hamburg steak — a smoked meat, lightly seasoned.

(No points for guessing the origin of the name).

And from there, the heavenly delight was born.

With no set-in-stone recipe as to what it should contain, the ability to personalise the burger saw it grow in popularity around the world.

In Australia, certain ingredients quickly became synonymous — egg, bacon, beetroot and pineapple.

Now, you’d struggle to find an Aussie burger without those delicious elements.

The ultimate Aussie burger

Try our succulent Aussie Burger or Classic Burger at Drift Dining & Bar’s famous Burgers, Beers and Beats session on the last Sunday of each month.

The burger scene in Kuala Lumpur is growing too, with an array of outlets serving amazing creations.

Here’s some of our favourites to rival our collection:

— Bash Burger @ KGB: Combines grilled beef, bacon jam relish, provolone cheese, caramelised onions and maple cornflakes.

— Ohana & Spicy Hawaiian @ My Burger Lab: The pioneer of gourmet burgers in Malaysia.

— Cajun Prawn Pork Burger @ Red Kettle: Thick handmade pork patty, homemade bacon, swiped with a dollop of honey mustard and tomato salsa and pieces of chargrilled Cajun prawns.

The one downer to these places, however, is the lack of an ice cold beer to wash it all down.

At Drift Dining and Bar, we can certainly help with that.

In the next few months, we’ll be introducing a range of Australian craft beers to match with that juicy Aussie burger.

The rise of craft beer in Australia is leading to a change in drinking habits with it becoming less about binge drinking and more about the experience — aiming more at a "young, hip, cultured, connected and clued in” consumer.

(Much in the same way wine does).

These craft beers are cultivated using unique flavours and brewing methods, inviting another element to that already-fulfilling experience.

Add in food — did we mention our amazing Aussie burgers? — and good music, and you’ve got that perfect three-pronged attack.

So, next time you’re sitting at home on Sunday doing nothing, head down to Drift Dining and Bar for our awesome Burgers, Beers and Beats session.

You’ll also be graced with the spectacular rocking beats of master DJ, Garry Tee.

When: Every last Sunday of the month.

What: Burgers, cold beers (Special prices on beers RM12 ++ all day) plus homemade tomato sauce and fries.
